Laying a lawn is one of the most simple and effective ways of covering a garden for low maintenance, and for use with a family or pets.  By laying a lawn, or growing your own, you can create an attractive feature which requires very little upkeep, and compliments any practical garden fantastically well.  In this article, we will look at some of the key preparations you should undertake before laying or seeding a lawn, to ensure the most effective coverage in your lawn.

The first thing you should do before establishing a lawn of your own is to decide between turfing and seeding.  Turfing has the advantage of giving an almost instantly lawn which is laid as carpet, although it is a significantly more costly process than seeding for yourself.  Whichever method you choose, there are a few basic procedures which you should enforce to ensure effective maintenance of your new lawn.  The first thing to bear in mind is that any successful lawn requires to be fed.  And that means more than just the occasional watering.  For your lawn to prosper, why not try introducing tomato feed, or some alternative source of fertilization.  Additionally, it is imperative that you keep on top of your lawn, and frequently trim it back, to encourage stronger and thicker growth.  By keeping this dedicated approach, you should notice a stronger lawn which will ultimately grow through thicker in future, leaving a healthier looking lawn in your garden, regardless of the impact of daily living.

Whether you are turfing or seeding a lawn, it is imperative that you leave it to grow for the first few days, and avoid standing on the area where possible.  This should give it sufficient time to grow in, and knit together, which will ultimately ensure your lawn grows strongly and cohesively.  Additionally, where seeding, it's imperative that you turn the seeds through the soil as you plant, to give them the best chance of germination and subsequent growth.

Laying a lawn of your own is one of the easiest ways to improve the look of your garden.  By taking some early care methods, you can ensure your grass grows through quickly and healthily, for long lasting growth and substantial coverage.  By simply looking after your lawn, you will notice amazing results in no time, which will leave your garden looking attractive, whilst remaining easy to maintain.
